Standard-Essential Patents: Legal and Technical Challenges

Principal attorney Theresa Stadheim spoke on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) in Milan, Italy on June 12.
The talk was part of an open seminar between AIPLA (American IP Law Association) and Italian patenting and licensing organizations Collegio-FICPI, LES Italia, and AICIPPI. Theresa discussed SEPs generally and gave the US perspective regarding standards-setting organizations (SSOs) and antitrust enforcement. Theresa also provided practice tips for drafting SEPs. Her Italian colleagues Dario Paschetta and Matteo Baroni then provided European viewpoints on SEPs and SSOs.
