For about 20 years, David has been working in intellectual property, including drafting and prosecuting patents both foreign and domestic, providing legal guidance on issues of patentability, patent infringement, freedom-to-operate, IP due diligence, and strategic counseling. David received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (summa cum laude) from Michigan Technological University in 2003. David’s expertise is not limited to mechanical engineering but has expanded to other disciplines, including computer technology, physics, process engineering, and electrical engineering.

Recently, David’s practice has focused on medical devices and techniques, robotics, VR/AR, wearables, aerospace, internal combustion engines, heavy equipment and electrification in the automotive and heavy work machine industries. Additionally, David has experience with HVAC systems and components, fire and security solutions, aircraft propulsion systems, alternative energy (wind power and hydropower), mobile devices, abrasives, power generation systems, social media, e-commerce and software-implemented systems, manufacturing and repair processes, and semiconductor technology. David’s practice is not limited to representing Fortune 500 companies; he has also drafted several foundational patents for startups.

Prior to and during college, David worked as a deckhand on a commercial fishing vessel in Alaska. His love of hard work and nature persists, as he enjoys improvement projects, hiking, kayaking, and fishing to this day. David lives in the Twin Cities with his wife, Jill, and their two children.
