Brent K. Whitlock, Ph.D. is a registered patent attorney and licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. 

Brent practices primarily in patent prosecution. Brent also counsels clients on all issues involving intellectual property, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and international IP protection. His recent patent prosecution experience includes software-based systems, electronic design automation, computer systems and networks, communication systems, laser systems, photonics, optics, digital cameras, electronic circuits, semiconductor devices, signal processing, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, aerospace systems, mechanical systems, combustion engines, nuclear power generation systems, and business methods. Brent works with inventors, entrepreneurs, and executives to develop intellectual property strategies and build international patent portfolios to protect their inventions. 

Brent brings an extensive technical background to the benefit of his clients. Prior to his patent practice, Brent has over a decade of experience in engineering, product management, and project/program management in high technology companies across the computer, software, telecommunications equipment, semiconductor, aerospace, and defense industries. Brent has worked in the areas of electronic circuit design and test, electronic design automation, wireless and optical communication systems, signal processing, and software engineering. He has also served on international standards associations, as a reviewer for academic journals, and as a committee member and session chair for technical conferences. Brent was a principal of RSoft Design Group (now part of Synopsys, Inc.’s Optical Solutions Group), a leading photonic design automation software company that licensed and commercialized software he developed as part of his doctoral work for design of optical interconnects and communication systems. Brent has also secured and managed numerous federally funded research and development projects.
