Overview

Adeel Haroon is a Principal and registered patent attorney who assists clients in post-grant proceedings, patent counseling, and patent prosecution.

Adeel has represented both petitioners and patent owners in post-grant proceedings, including inter partes review and covered business method review. He has also represented clients in reexamination and reissue proceedings.

Adeel has substantial litigation experience in U.S. district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and arbitration hearings. His experience extends from pre-trial investigations through trial and post-trial activities. He has argued Markman hearings, taken and defended expert and fact depositions, drafted appeal briefs and dispositive motions, managed discovery, and prepared expert and fact witnesses for trial.

Before his legal career, Adeel worked as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined applications dealing with telecommunications, multiplex communications, digital communications, and antenna designs.

Adeel’s litigation and examining experience informs his counseling and prosecution practice. For example, his diverse experience assists him with developing post-grant (e.g., IPR, CBM, PGR) strategies for cases involving concurrent litigation; evaluating patent risks and rendering freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions; and developing patent portfolios using cost-effective and efficient prosecution strategies.

Adeel is also active in pro bono matters. Adeel has represented unaccompanied children in removal proceedings in immigration court, domestic abuse victims in immigration matters, and tenants in landlord-tenant disputes.

Prior to joining Schwegman, Adeel was an associate in the Washington, DC offices of Goodwin Procter LLP and Kenyon & Kenyon LLP.
